Dramatic Diablo Lake Sunset

Diablo Lake is easy to get to but hard to get truly beautiful fine art sunset photography prints of. Its water contains suspended bits of stone ground from the surrounding mountains by glaciers, which make the water look turquoise in the right light, so timing is everything when creating alpine lake landscape photography wall art like this. 
 
I calculated the time of year when the sun would set directly over the lake and spent the weekend kayaking and camping out there to get the best opportunities for alpine mountain lake photographs. First, I paddled out on the water, then I drove up to the overlook, then the light looked better down below. Then suddenly it changed again, and I raced back up to the overlook to capture this stunning alpine lake sunset. Because the sunset was positioned in the center, the golden glow reflected in the center fades to the deep turquoise at the edges of Diablo Lake in this North Cascade alpine lake photography print.
